Google Play Store starts rolling out to Chrome OS on the stable channel

Google at its I/O conference back in May announced that Google Play Store and Android apps are coming to Chrome OS. Starting from June Play Store was made available to select Chromebooks via Chrome 53 Dev Channel.

Now Google has started rolling out Play Store to Chrome OS stable channel, allowing more users to download and run Android apps on their Chromebooks. With the Stable channel 53.0.2785.129, the Play Store has been released in beta for Acer Chromebook R11 and Asus Chromebook Flip. Note that, the Google Play Store is disabled by default and requires to be manually enabled from Chrome Settings.

Other Chromebooks including Chromebook Pixel (2015) and Chrome OS devices (Chromebase AIO, Chromebox desktop, Chromebit PC Stick) are also expected to get support for Google Play Store later this year and in 2017.

Apart from Google Play Store, the new build also contains a number of bug fixes, security updates and feature enhancements.
