Unboxing / Accessories

The Flare J7 comes in their usual package. But, we slightly liked it better this time. Why? While it may seem ordinary looking, Cherry Mobile included a faster charging 2A wall charger in its package which isn't that common on this price point. It'll be helpful to charge the large 4,900 mAh of battery of this phone faster. Then there's the regular USB to micro USB cable and in-ear monitors with microphone for calls.

An inclusion of a soft jelly case and screen protector would have made this package better though.

Build Quality / Design

The handset comes in a familiar yet enlarged design. The body of this handset is equipped with mostly plastic construction which feels just fine. The side has glossy metallic finish and the back cover matte like paint finish. Then its screen is made out of the usual layer of glass.

With proper care and use, this handset might last.

However, on hard drops and improper use expect dents or even cracks.

Aesthetically, this handset isn't the most beautiful at this price, but it has a safe and clean looking design. It has nice metallic finish finish, the curves are just fine, and we liked that it isn't that thick even if it has large battery inside.

Ergonomically, the phone is heavy but generally feels good in the hands. It's not the best around this range, but at least it doesn't have annoying sharp edges and has good button placements. Only its "at the back" speaker placement is our concern. It would have been better to see it below or in front to enjoy louder tunes.

Initial findings

1. We liked the colors coming from its large 6 inch screen. Then even at just HD resolution, pixels aren't visible on naked eye.
2. Materials used are decent, but could be better. It has a close to "premium" appeal from afar.
3. Cherry's promise of "real" 4,900 mAh battery capacity is interesting. If its rating legit, expect 1-2 days of long battery life. The rest of the specs looks decent for casual daily use on paper.
4. The 8 MP f/2.0 camera is bright and capable. It is not interpolated as well. We'll test its 2 MP selfie camera on the full review.
5. OTG works w/ reverse charging (powerbank mode), 700 MHz 4G LTE compatibility will be useful in the future, and there's LED notification.

As of the moment

There's a good chance that this Cherry Mobile Flare J7 would do great for its purpose. We generally liked its huge screen and the promise of long lasting battery life at this low asking price.

That's it for now! We hope to do a full review of this promising device soon.
